AFM
The French Association of Mechanics, created in 1997 at the instigation of the Haut Comité Mécanique (HCM) and the Association Universitaire de Mechanics (AUM) which both preceded it, with also the decisive support of the Federation of Mechanical Industries (FIM) and the Technical Center for Mechanical Industries (CETIM). It is a “société savante” representing mechanics in France as a whole, academic as industrial. The creation of the AFM was the result of the will of 17 thematic scientific associations (Acoustics-Vibrations, Tribology, Rheology, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials and Structures, Biomechanics, Thermal, Composites, Manufacturing Processes, Metrology of Constraints, ...) some having decided to merge completely into AFM, and many major industrialists of the field (SAFRAN Group, AIRBUS Group, AREVA, TOTAL, RENAULT, ..)
The AFM's actions include the organization of a large congress (about 1000 participants) every two years, the French Mechanics Congress (CFM) also including an international opening (EUROMECH Seminar, International Francophone Congress), the organization of scientific events ( "Days" with partner companies through our mixed "GSTs"), the sponsoring of Thematic Symposia (like this one), the edition of an international newspaper "Mechanics & Industry" (IF 0.66), the financial support of participation of juniors (or senior) at international IUTAM conferences, under the aegis of the CNFM, the awards a prestigious thesis prize the Paul Germain Prize. The AFM also plays an important role in relationship with Training and Trades thanks particularly to its “GTT AUM” through reflections and actions (Schools Thematics and Summer Schools, census Masters, communication to young people, presence of elected members at CNU 60th section)and is concerned about the future of PhD students through a close partnership with the “REDOC-SPI Network”.
The AFM, strong of its 2800 members, is a “société savante” of weight, interlocutor with the other big learned scientific societies (SFP, SMAI, SFGP), with the public organizations (Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Industry , Regions, Alliance Industry of Future), interacting with the Academy of Sciences and this of Technology, the CNRS Institute of Engineering Sciences (INSIS), the National Research Agency (ANR), etc.

ALICONA
Your partner for optical 3D metrology
Focal Variation for Material Science
Alicona measurement systems allow to measure the size, shape and texture of various materials. These measurements help determine which surface features effect which material characteristics. The Alicona systems provide profile based roughness measurement (Ra, Rq, Rz) and surface texture (Sa, Sq, Sz) measurements. Corrosion measurements are quick and easy as the system is especially designed for corrosion analysis over large scan areas up to 200x200 mm. The system high resolution and traceable and highly repeatable measurement give the confidence to correlate surface structure with material properties. In addition, the Alicona data is a true color visualization of the measured surface to allow easy identification and confirmation of defects on a material surface. Advanced material investigations can be performed on various surface finishes on for example stainless steel, nickel-based alloys, titanium or aluminum alloys. All Alicona systems are also highly intuitive to use and do not require high training effort.
In materials science, Alicona systems can be used in many ways including the following:
• Establish a correlation between surface parameters and functional behavior of solid materials
• 3D surface measurements of metals, semiconductors, ceramics, polymer, composites and metal alloys.
